Long considered the hub of activity on the island of Maui, the town of Lahaina offers visitors a long list of fun things to do, historic sites to visit, great restaurants to dine at, and so many great activities that listing them all would require a lot of time. Front St. is considered the center of activity, fronting the stunning Pacific Ocean and offering enough to fill an entire day.
Here is our list of fun things to do in Lahaina, giving you a head start on your vacation planning.
- Spend some time on Front Street – we alluded to this earlier, but it is easily the most obvious, and can be the most affordable. Lahaina is an old whaling town, and was once the hub of whaling in the Pacific. Front Street has been named one of the greatest streets in the country, and after spending some time here, you will see why
- Banyan Tree Park – The park is an absolute must during a trip to Lahaina, and the Banyan Trees here will leave you in awe. Offering plenty of shade, the trees form a canopy, and the oldest tree dates back to 1873, when the seedling was planted. You can only imagine how big it is today!
- Take in Ulalena at the Historic Maui Theatre – After wandering Front St., and dining at one of the amazing restaurants, you will be looking to get off your feet, and cool off. Ulalena is one of the must see evening shows on Maui, telling the stories of the various waves of arrivals to the Hawaiian Islands. The performances are captivating and the acrobatics thrilling, plus throw in the setting of the historic Maui Theatre and you are in for quite a treat. Seats to the show are very limited, and performances take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. VIP Packages are available, and includes acces to the VIP Lounge.
- Check out the boats at Lahaina Harbor – Located just off Front St., behind the banyan trees is Lahaina Harbor. The boats that are docked here are pretty amazing, ranging from old fishing boats to state of the art speedboats and mini-yachts.
We love visiting Lahaina, and strolling around town, checking everything out. There are so many restaurants and places to grab a bite to eat that one day isn’t enough. Enjoy a day or two at the historic town, and take it all in. Lahaina is centrally located on the west side of the island, so getting there is very easy.
